Periodic Photometric Variability in the Becklin-neugebauer Object

چکیده
The Becklin-Neugebauer (BN) object in the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC) is a well-studied optically invisible, infrared-bright young stellar object, thought to be an intermediate-mass protostar. We report here that BN exhibited nearly-sinusoidal periodic variability at the near-infrared Hand Ks-bands during a one month observing campaign in 2000 March/April. The period was 8.28 days and the peak-to-peak amplitude ∼0.2 mag. Plausible mechanisms for producing the observed variability characteristics are explored. Astrometry of the Becklin-neugebauer Object’s Ejection from Θc
We show that the proper motion of the Becklin-Neugebauer (BN) object is consistent with its dynamical ejection from the ΘC binary, contrary to recent claims by Gómez et al. Continued radio observations of BN and future precise astrometric observations of ΘC with SIM and the Orion Nebula Cluster with GAIA can constrain the properties of this ejection event, with implications for theories of how ...

متن کاملThe Becklin-neugebauer Object as a Runaway B Star, Ejected 4000 Years Ago from the Θc System
We attempt to explain the properties of the Becklin-Neugebauer (BN) object as a runaway B star, as originally proposed by Plambeck et al. (1995). This is one of the best-studied bright infrared sources, located in the Orion Nebula Cluster — an important testing ground for massive star formation theories. From radio observations of BN’s proper motion, we trace its trajectory back to Trapezium st...
متن کاملThe Photometric Variability of Hh 30
HH 30 is an edge-on disk around a young stellar object. Previous imaging with the Hubble Space Telescope has show morphological variability that is possibly related to the rotation of the star or the disk. We report the results of two terrestrial observing campaigns to monitor the integrated magnitude of HH 30. We use the Lomb-Scargle periodogram to look for periodic modulation with periods bet...
متن کاملPeriodic Optical Variability of Radio Detected Ultracool Dwarfs
A fraction of very low mass stars and brown dwarfs are known to be radio active, in some cases producing periodic pulses. Extensive studies of two such objects have also revealed optical periodic variability and the nature of this variability remains unclear. Here we report on multi-epoch optical photometric monitoring of six radio detected dwarfs, spanning the ∼M8 L3.5 spectral range, conducte...
